Private Lessons

Private lessons are offered in voice and a wide assortment of instruments including piano, organ, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and guitar. These lessons are designed for one-on-one instructional time between the teacher and student, where the student’s lessons are individualized and his/her learning needs prioritized.

Group Instruction

Music for Little Mozarts Piano

Group piano for young beginners (ages 4-5 years) focusing on the fundamentals of playing piano, reading music, and playing in a group setting. This class will include activities, coloring, and more for the young pianist!

Class piano for beginners focusing on the fundamentals of playing piano, reading music, and rhythm. This class will utilize Alfred beginning piano books and will be separated into age groups (6-8 years and 9-12 years).

Piano Choir

Piano Choir will provide instruction and unique opportunity for piano students to play piano with up to 8 other people in ensemble. Ensemble playing builds self-confidence through group reinforcement of parts, strengthens internal steady beat, develops musicianship, and brings enjoyment through the cumulative sounds of multiple parts played simultaneously.

Band and Orchestra Ensembles

These classes will offer instruction on the fundamental techniques for each band/orchestra instrument, as well as provide experience playing in an ensemble. Students will need to obtain their own instruments for these classes. An open house will be held in early August for registered students. Information about how and where to obtain the selected instruments will be shared at this open house.

Class Guitar

These classes will offer instruction on the fundamental techniques for guitar, as well as provide experience playing in an ensemble. Students will need to obtain their own guitars for these classes.

Music and God's World

Preschoolers will learn to connect themselves to God and His world through songs, Bible stories, and musical activities. This class is a wonderful introduction to the joy of music for young children, ages 3-5 years old. Parents are welcome!

Rhythm and Note Reading

This class will prepare students for private lessons on any instrument, and/or will serve as supplemental instruction to private lessons. The focus will be on learning and improving note-reading and rhythm-reading in fun and innovative ways! This group class also focuses on ensemble playing with and against different parts, and participants are guaranteed to strengthen their music reading skills and independence!

Group Strings Classes for ages 7-9

Beginner students aged 7-9, grouped in a class with only violins and violas, or in a class with only cellos. Enjoy making music through introduction to playing a stringed orchestra instrument in a class setting where everyone is learning the same instrument together. Good preparation for orchestra!

Adult Beginning Orchestra

Open to adults of all ages, beginners or players with experience! Instrumentation includes violin, viola, cello, and double bass.

Dance

Kindermusik

Kindermusik is multi-sensory learning that explores motor skills and vocabulary with the active participation in class by the child’s parent or caregiver! For young beginning musicians, this is a great introduction to numerous musical concepts.  Students will explore what music is, be exposed to different genres of music, learn musical letters, and "meet" with a very popular instrument - the violin!  Activities will include singing, listening to music and drawing to express what they've heard, and performing musical rhythms and rhythm variations.

For young violinists, this is a great enrichment to their violin study.  Students will address posture when playing the violin, with an emphasis on relaxing the body and arms from unnecessary tension.  Activities will also address improvements with playing in tune, rhythm development, and coordination when playing the violin.  Basic music theory and understanding of the musical alphabet will also be a part of this class.  Why do some people call classical music "serious music?"  A fun time exploring this idea will also be a part of this amazing class!

Music Improvisation - an introduction

For students who want to learn how to get started improvising, or making up music as they play it, this class is for you!  As long as you have been playing your instrument for at least one year, you can take this class and get started with improvisation.  Any pitched instrument is welcome! (percussionists should bring a keyboard mallet percussion instrument, not a drum of any kind).  So, bring that trumpet, saxophone, flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar - whatever you have!  Piano players are welcome also - we'll have a piano available for you!  If it plays notes, you can use it to participate in this class!  Taught by a music educator with 30+ years of teaching experience, this class will help all participating students get started with improvising!

Suitable as a prerequisite to AP Music Theory, or for any high school and older learner wanting to know more about music.

People from Beethoven to Taylor Swift love writing music in order to express themselves.
But how do you get started doing something so complicated?

This course teaches the fundamentals of composing: generating musical ideas, how to turn basic ideas into a full piece, and getting around the dreaded “Writer’s Block”.  No advanced music theory background is required—all that’s needed is a pencil, staff paper, comfort reading music in treble clef, and a love of music!

Beginning Band Woodwinds is a course offered to students as an opportunity to learn the basic skills necessary to play a band instrument and to function as an ensemble member.  Foundational principles of sight-reading, ensemble participation, music theory, history, and cultural influences are introduced as a part of this course, and technical skills and other music fundamentals are incorporated into the study of individual instruments and ensemble rehearsal activities.  Learning how to read music is an important aspect of the beginning band experience. Instruction is offered for the following woodwind instruments: flute, clarinet, and alto saxophone. Other woodwind instruments may be selected with the permission of the director.  Performance opportunities may include recitals sponsored by the Snyder Music Academy, and will be publicized at least one month in advance of the performance.
 
Minimum age:  11 years old and up—parents are encouraged to obtain an instrument and register themselves so they can learn as well!

     Beginning Band Brass is a structured course offered to students as an opportunity to learn the basic skills necessary to play a band instrument and to function as an ensemble member.  Foundational principles of sight-reading, ensemble participation, music theory, history, and cultural influences are introduced as a part of this course, and technical skills and other music fundamentals are incorporated into the study of individual instruments and ensemble rehearsal activities.  Learning to read music is an important aspect of the beginning band experience. Instruction is offered for the following instruments: trumpet and trombone. Other brass instruments may be selected with the permission of the director.  Performance opportunities may include recitals sponsored by the Snyder Music Academy, and will be publicized at least one month in advance of the performance.

Instruction is offered for keyboard percussion (bell kit) and snare drum.   Performance opportunities may include recitals sponsored by the Snyder Music Academy, and will be publicized at least one month in advance of the performance.

2nd Year Band

2nd Year Band offers the development and continuation of musical skills achieved at the beginning level, in a full-band setting.  This course will concentrate on the advancement of playing techniques, and musical knowledge appropriate to the level of band literature being performed at this stage of development.  The instrumentation may be expanded according to student interest and ensemble requirements.  Other important aspects of this course will include improved tone production, music vocabulary, as well as the continuation of basic instrumental fundamentals, sight-reading skills, musical expression, musical interpretation, and ensemble performance.

 2nd Year Orchestra is offered to all students who have successfully completed a beginning strings program and/or can demonstrate the technical proficiency necessary for this level of study.  Participation in 2nd Year Orchestra allows the student to refine and continue their development of instrumental musical skills through ensemble and rehearsal techniques.  Stringed instruments studied will include the violin, viola, cello, and bass.  This course is designed to acquire increased proficiency with notational literacy, and to offer the opportunity to achieve a higher level of musical achievement than is accomplished in the Beginning Orchestra program.

Class Guitar 1B (Beginning Level)

Class Guitar is designed to be an introduction to playing the guitar.  Music reading or prior experience with another instrument is not a requirement for this class, although students with those skills are welcome to register and will learn how to apply their previous experience to the guitar.  Class guitar instruction is offered to students with either an acoustic (including classical) or an electric guitar, although an acoustic guitar (or classical guitar) will provide an easier learning experience for a student new to this instrument.  Basic instrumental skills are taught in a group setting.  Notational literacy (music reading) and basic chord strumming will begin at this level.  Performance opportunities may include recitals sponsored by the Snyder Music Academy, and will be publicized at least one month in advance of the performance.

Class Guitar Ensemble is designed to be an a further development of both individual skill and musicianship as introduced during the first year of  playing the guitar.  Music reading and at least one year of prior experience with playing the guitar are requirements for this class.  Class Guitar Ensemble instruction is offered to students with either an acoustic (including classical) or an electric guitar, although an acoustic guitar (or classical guitar) will provide an easier learning experience for a student new to this instrument.  Continuing instrumental and musicianship  skills are taught in a group setting.  Skills with notational literacy (music reading) and basic chord strumming will continue at this level, as well as skills pertaining to performing in a group setting.  Performance opportunities may include recitals sponsored by the Snyder Music Academy, and will be publicized at least one month in advance of the performance.
