Rhythm and Note Reading
This class will prepare students for private lessons on any instrument, and/or will serve as supplemental instruction to private lessons. Beginning Band Woodwinds is a course offered to students as an opportunity to learn the basic skills necessary to play a band instrument and to function as an ensemble member. Foundational principles of sight-reading, ensemble participation, music theory, history, and cultural influences are introduced as a part of this course, and technical skills and other music fundamentals are incorporated into the study of individual instruments and ensemble rehearsal activities. Learning how to read music is an important aspect of the beginning band experience. Instruction is offered for the following woodwind instruments: flute, clarinet, and alto saxophone. Other woodwind instruments may be selected with the permission of the director. Performance opportunities may include recitals sponsored by the Snyder Music Academy, and will be publicized at least one month in advance of the performance.
